Identifying a Houseplant?

I received this house plant as a sympathy gift at my mother's funeral this past Saturday. I really want to keep this plant alive and healthy in my mother's memory, but I am unsure what it is. She loved house plants.

It has red stems and somewhat dark green leaves. I'm not sure if it likes sunlight or even how much to water it. I hope someone out here can help.
