What you're describing sounds like a Mother In Law's Tongue plant. Check this video:
This could be a corn plant.
I think it's an orchid.
What type medium is it in? If it is in soil, it probably is not an orchid.
I resized and lightened the photo and it does appear to be an orchid. Of course, what kind of orchid is anyone's guess but if you take care of it you will be able to find the kind and name when it blooms. Once it blooms you can Google orchid photos and I'm sure you be able to identify it.
