I got this plant as a gift. I watered it and kept it in the sun. Its leaves started drying. I don't know what to do? Is it an indoor plant? Can someone help me identify it?

It looks like a bromeliad.
No its not. Thanku for ur help though.
Check this pic of the plant when it was new.
It looks like an impatiens. Keep the soil moist with a drain. Keep in the shade.
your before photo is not very clear. Also, where in the world are you? Does/did the plant ever flower? Is the leaf arrangement Alternate Opposite Whorled or Fascicled? All these and other questions can help answer these questions\
it is bothering me because i know i"ve seen this pink stem sort of plant before it reminds me of something that could be related to the begonia but the leaf is slightly different and i don't know if it ever flowered
what i can tell you is the architecture of the stem suggests this is a plant that needs A LOT of water and probably only mixed sun/shade, so you could try that
if you have an iphone you could try this app itunes.apple.com/
or this site plant.id/
It looks like an indoor plant but?
Whatever you have been doing must not be what this plant needs so maybe no direct sun and slow up on the water a little until it can adjust to less sun.
It might help if you take some pictures of the plant near the soil line and another from the top or better photos of the original plant (if available).
You might be able to get help from your local Master Gardener.
Google master gardener or ag agent with your zip code and you should be able to find their location.
I will work on the drainage and see if i can get help of a gardener.
Thanku for all your help.
M sure its an indoor plant bcz i kept it out in my balcony for a few hours and that is when all the problems started. Though i didn't keep it in direct sunlight, its leaves dried up in a few hours and then one by one the stems are drying.
Remember - most all plants need light so be sure to put this near a window but not is direct sun for a while. Even a completely shaded area (indirect light) on your patio a few hours a day may be a good idea.
Please try to talk to your local master gardener (or ag agent) as they are usually very helpful.
