Identifying a Porcelain Doll?

Identifying a Porcelain Doll - doll wearing a brown dress with striped shirt underneathMy daughter received this doll for her birthday. It was not in a box and we know nothing about it. The head, upper chest, hands, forearms, feet, and lower legs are all porcelain. Anyone know anything about it?

You will have to undress the doll to look for markings. Look on the back of the neck, back, and bottoms of feet.

She doesnt seem to have any markings anywhere except the #9 on her upper arm (stuffing).

She resembles dolls from an Ellis Island series of dolls sold on QVC or one of those home shopping network shows. I am trying to find a link to the series to find an exact match or what markings they use, but must not be doing something right, as I can't find it.

My mother-in-law took classes in doll-making and this one looks like some of the dolls she made. It might be a home-made doll.

There are so many similar dolls that it will probably take a doll collector/expert to provide any information on a doll with no markings but sometimes we get lucky and remember seeing something that might relate to your doll. She is dressed in an unusual outfit but I hope you can find some markings on her neck/head or back that will help everyone with their research.

  • Sometimes we can find a similar doll that will help identify a company by looking at the dolls mouth/eyes and hands.
  • This doll has full hands (not a "clumped" hand) so that indicates a little more expensive doll but it does not look like she has "real" eyelashes (painted on?) but all features are difficult to see in one picture.
  • How tall is she? Is she jointed (arms and legs move in sockets), eyes open and close?
  • Just questions to think about with dolls but most of these dolls (especially with no markings) run very low in value and can be purchased for $3-$20 on eBay or Etsy (the largest doll auction sites).
  • There are several Internet sites that have member assisted boards that will offer free information on dolls so you might post her picture there to see if anyone recognizes her.

  • It is a little trouble but many times provides a lot of information.
