Identifying a Porcelain Doll?

Identifying a Porcelain Doll - doll wearing a plaid hat and scarfI have this doll. I don't see any markings on it and I'm trying to find what it is. It was bought in Scotland in the 1990s. I have searched google and can't find anything the same. The stand in the photo is from a different doll.

This looks like an Aston Drake or Franklin Mint doll. Undress the doll and look for markings.

It reminds me of a GI-GO TOYS FTY, LTD doll...they made dolls with weird expressions like this one has. If I remember right, they have been around since the late 1970s. They are out of Hong Kong...so if it has a marking on it about made in Hong Kong you could have one of those dolls. Some have value, some don't.

I have not seen this particular gal...but I will keep researching as she fascinates me. Sometimes the dolls with the funny faces do fetch more than the smiling girls!

If you learn something first, post back, If I find out more, I will let you know!

You say you searched on google with no results. Time to search some where else. I suggest trying eBay, they are the largest site in the world offering dolls for sale.

See if you can find a doll similar to yours. Also try Craigslist.

Trying to place ID information about a doll without markings is akin to the old expression "like trying to find a needle in a haystack" as there are literately thousands of similar dolls on the Internet and more added everyday.

  • i agree that the facial expression does resemble some of the faces of the GI-GO dolls but if my memory serves me right the GI-GO dolls were mostly very small dolls and were usually always "ugly" and generally wore "country style" clothes.
  • You say it was purchased in Scotland in the 1990 but that does not necessarily mean the doll was made in Scotland so that is not a big help and you do not say if it was purchased new in 1990 or could it have been a "used" doll and maybe older than 1990?
  • I would suggest you ask your question on a doll forum site as these sites usually have a variety of doll collector and someone may recognize your doll.
  • Here is a link to a very good forum:
  • To post here you will need very good pictures as well as a good description of the composition of the doll. Is it all porcelain or just partly? Do the eyes open and close? How tall is the doll?

  • You should check for markings before you do anything else. Check on the back and neck (at the bottom of the hairline) for any type of markings or numbers. If there is anything there, be sure to take closeup pictures as well.
  • This is a really cute doll so I hope you can find out who she and maybe reply back so we can know also.

Hi. It was a birthday present. It was bought in Scotland and it was also new in a box. I was only around 15 and the box ended up in the bin. So unfortunately I dont know the make. It has no markings but the cost is not removable so I cant check fully

Thanks for the additional info. Unfortunately I have not been able to locate any more information on her. As cybergrannie stated, you might want to ask at the link she provided.

Unfortunately most dolls that were inexpensive to start with, are still inexpensive in the resale market today (not a hard and fast rule, just a general comment). Values drop without boxes and original paperwork if they came with it originally.

Please post back what you learn on from the doll site!! I am very curious as she does have quite the unusual expression!
