I found this doll in the garage of a home we just purchased. I am wondering if it's a real Bru, a replica, or what is it worth. The doll is 14 inches tall. There was a note pinned to the doll under the dress with a phone # and the name April wxxxx. That # has been disconnected.

It seems the real Bru dolls were made from 1866 to 1899. I think yours is a knockoff. You can always take it to a dealer. You can also upload the picture to the forum at www.dollreference.com
I have just started learning about French dolls so I am low on the learning curve. I can share some of the websites I have been reading to help you. They are all at the end of this message.
My gut feeling is it is a reproduction, but there is always hope it is real. My gut says the hair doesn't look like mohair, the eyes don't quite look right, and the head looks like a composition material, not bisque.
Also if she was a real, original Bru, they were not signed in black ink on the neck. I am thinking this was 1986 referenced there. If someone wrote their name on an OLD Bru, it would devalue it some
I true antique dealer can give you more information and a value, because there are repro dolls that do have value, strange as it sounds!
I encourage you for your piece of mind and possible financial gains, to take her to a reputable antique or doll dealer and get her checked out. You don't mention where you are, but most big cities and even some of the small ones, have reputable dealers who can help!

PS. She is lovely no matter what!
I'm not sure about the markings and the name written in black is definitely not original but it could be one of the reproductions made in the 1980's.
