I believe this doll was my grandmother's (born 1898) or her mother's. The silk dress had disintegrated and had to be thrown away. The doll is in excellent condition except for a slight chip on the front porcelain. The paint on its head is a little worn in places. Her hair has a braid across top and a bun in back. My great grand mother was from Germany. I know nothing else. There are no markings of any kind.

This antique doll is in great condition. Take it to a doll dealer for a free verbal appraisal.
Wow!!! Two of these dolls in one week!! I just commented on another post for a similar doll.
I am going to link my post here because I think the same advice I gave to the first doll owner, is exactly what I would share with you...

Please post back what you learn from the expert! The two dolls are very similar yet different...I am so excited to see if one or both are original or are kit dolls.
That you said yours came with a silk dress and that your grandmother was from Germany, yours may be an original!! So thrilled to see these posts and to learn more!
I agree with Pghgirl - two great dolls that may be originals!
We do have to remember that our grandmothers and great grandmothers were expert seamstresses and sewing was a daily thing in their time so what looks like 'factory' made could easily be made from a kit.
I would really like to know what type of doll you have so I hope you will also post her pictures to the doll forum so we can all learn more about these dolls.
If you ask for information please be sure to give size and any provenance you may know about.
Thank you for all of your help. I will try to find a doll dealer/ appraiser in my area. Can you tell me what the doll forum is ? I can't seem to find that anywhere. Are there any other search sites I should pursue?
I saw you found the doll forum and they gave you some valuable info on your gal!! That is wonderful! I am curious to hear what an antique dealer in your town will tell you (offer you to sell for you?).
If you wanted to list it on eBay you could go the route of a 7 day auction starting at a low price and putting a reserve on it.
This would allow you to get a feel for the market.
If you want more about how to do this and what it all means and how much it will cost you to do so, I can elaborate. My only fear is if you have never sold on eBay before I would want to know that...there has been a spate of fraud going on with new sellers and I would NOT want to get you in that mess.
If you have already sold on eBay and have over 25 feedbacks, this may be a good venue for you...otherwise, you are safest to get bids from antique dealers in your town.
I usually just do a Google search to find local shops (or in my case to see if there are NEW shops since I know all of the old ones).
Post back if I can help further!
