Identifying a Porcelain Doll?

Identifying a Porcelain Doll - doll wearing Native American style clothingI bought this doll that is still in the box. I don't really want to take her out to try to find a marking and value. I am hoping someone can help me. I have searched the numbers on the box and tag. I am sure I am doing something wrong.

This looks like a mass-produced doll that is worth little. You will have to take the doll out of the box and undress it to find markings.

An easy online search for "porcelain doll values" will produce many answers. Keep in mind that just because a doll may be fancy, old, inherited, etc., it most probably has little value as most are mass produced in the thousands and very often include a fake certification, the rather misleading term limited edition etc., in their names. A doll's condition is extremely important in considering value-the best doll prices are paid for dolls literally never removed from their boxes. You can find prices for some dolls on EBay and try online for further research. This site is a good place to start:

How to identify a porcelain doll:

  1. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to identify your doll without knowing a few details of the doll.
  2. Porcelain dolls are marked in several ways.

  4. You can find a tag around the wrist, marking on the back of the neck, on the back, stomach or even on the feet.
  5. Without the numbers this is a very difficult task to do.
  6. Once you can find any number at all then it is easier to identify where the doll was manufactured.
  7. Look for a DK or maybe anything like a BB or something like this on the doll.
  8. The numbers behind this marking are for the year, how many dolls were manufactured, and the number of doll your is.
  9. For example, if it is a number like 246-1059 that would mean your doll was the 246th doll to be made and they made 1059 dolls in this series.
  10. There is really no way to determine the value of your doll without first identifying your doll.
  11. I can only tell you that many people try to sell these types of dolls online and they normally only make between $10 to $25 for the doll.
