Is that a red spider? Maybe a wolf spider?

It looks like a red clover mite or a red spider mite to me.
Some web sites listed are from commercial pest control companies but they have best information on bugs.

  • i thought it might be the red harvest mite (chigger) but changed my mind as the shape/legs do not appear to be the same.
  • I hope it is the red spider mite as these are much easier to eradicate and they most found on plants outside. If the bugs are forming a web then it would be the red spider mite.

  • If it is the red clover mite here are some facts about its behavior (from university website):
  • The red stains they leave when crushed isn't blood. It is pigment from their bodies. Clover mites eat grasses, clover, and other plants. Not blood.
  • Clover mites are not known to spread or carry infectious diseases. They are also not a pest known for carrying harmful bacteria from your trash cans to your stored foods or food prep surfaces.

  • Clover mites are known to stain furnishings, curtains, and cloth items with their red pigments. If you value the items in your home, you're going to want to keep these tiny red bugs out. But getting rid of clover mites and keeping them out of a home can be extremely difficult.

The picture is a little blurred...if it looks like this creepy crawly, it is a red spider mite:

They are icky!

If that is what they are and they are outside...one of the best solutions (NO CHEMICALS) is to get lady bugs to eat them:

If you google buy ladybugs and your town, the closest location will pop up. I personally don't buy them via mail...I know they probably come from far away anyhow...but it is the allusion of buying locally :)

If they are in the house, wash them away with warm water and a few drops of any dish soap. That will usually kill the bugs and eggs--especially if they are on houseplants. Do this in the bathtub (if on a plant) then bleach out the tub when you are done!

Good luck!

I would say this is a red spider mite. It is part of the spider family and can be a mite or just a red spider.

looks like a red spider mite like others had said. No harm whatsoever to humans in any sort of way, but they are known to stain furniture, drapes, and fabric items with the red pigment on it.
