Look underneath the cushion and under the chair for identifying markings. It is much harder to value the chair without them.

The cushion has been redone and there is black cloth covering the bottom. Just wanted to find a style and maybe an approximate year this may have been made. Not looking to price it.

Wow! This is gorgeous!

It is an American Revival style, spindle back rocker.

It has Art Nouveau style inlays which may put it from the 1890s or later (this style has been repeated in history for many years).

It is lovely even with the newer upholstery.

An antique dealer may know the maker right away, but sadly, I am not yet that good at IDing things from photos.

My suggestion is to take it to a dealer to learn more and find out if you need to put an insurance value on it--some of these style chairs are quite valuable--and if yours is a true antique and not a repro piece, you may want to know the value for insurance purposes.

I hope you take it to a dealer to learn more and will share back!! Thanks for posting it!

What a beautiful chair. Whoever did the re-upholstery did a really good job and the color is lovely. i believe this is one of those chairs that many people redid with needlepoint covers.

I believe most of the spindle rocking chairs had more spindles but maybe not.
It may even fall in what is called 'Victorian' but probably only a true appraiser could ID this chair.

Not everybody has a local antique shop that will give free appraisals or even have someone who can ID really unusual stuff - maybe you do.

I use free online appraisal service quite frequently and always receive very good information. If you would like to try several of these it is very easy to do.
You will need several pictures; one or more of the chair full front (complete chair), full side, full back, full bottom under chair. Measurements.
Someone will tell you if it is an antique or reproduction and style as well as insurance value. All of this awaits you for just a little more trouble.

Thank you. I believe it is original as the Cape Cod home I bought it from (for $60) belonged to a 103-year-old woman who passed and her relatives were getting rid of everything. I will absolutely use the link and also find an antique dealer who may be able to tell me more. I certainly don't want to sell it but as you said it would be a good idea to have a monetary value for insurance purposes. A while back someone said that it looked like a chair from the civil war era, which would pretty much go along with what you said.
