Can someone help me identify this old chair? The upholstery is original.

This is a very neat chair. It is hard to tell from the photo if it is what I think it is or a nice reproduction piece.
To me, it looks like an 1800s chair from some where in Europe or maybe Asian or the middle east. It is in the Victorian style, very ornate. Hard to tell from the photo what the wood is...maybe mahogany or cherry?
It is very ornate and looks to be in pretty good shape (which may mean it is a repro (newer) piece or was just VERY WELL cared for in its life.
I strongly recommend taking it to a reputable antique dealer and having them look at it and give you their feedback. If it is a true 1800s Victorian piece, some of those pieces (more so in the country of origin) still fetch good money. Even as a repro--it may have some value...but that will depend on where you are located and the supply and demand for such pieces where you are located.
Post back what you learn!! This is a neat piece no matter what!!
You need to look for identifying markings. This chair could be the real thing or could be a reproduction. If you are not sure, take it to a dealer
Hi,
This looks so beautiful! Look around where people would place their hands and see if there is signs of wear and tear. This would point to this chair being an original and not a reproduction.
