I didn't see any maker's mark. Does anyone know what type of chair this is or about when it was made?
Thanks.

It is hard to know unless you know who made it. It could be very old or a reproduction. I do think the legs are Chippendale style.
Wow! This is a neat chair! It has an oriental feel to it to me...that rounded, squat shape and the carvings. It is hard to say if it is real or a reproduction piece without looking at its underside and construction.
I would take the chair to a reputable antique dealer who can look at it in person and determine exactly hat you have.
My gut feeling is it is a valuable piece....but that is just a gut feeling...someone looking at it in person may see things and say it isn't.
Please post back what you learn!! I am so curious!!
Hi,
This is an interesting chair, I love it! To me, it looks French, because of the direction the feet of the chair at pointed. I would guess it would go for under $500. I would have it appraised, but they can be pricey and if the chair is not worth more than the cost of the appraiser, than you have lost money. I would put it up on ebay and ask about $150 or $200. if it were my chair.
Have a great day!
Robyn
Neat chair..
I believe it has been recovered as the material/design do not seem to go with that style of chair.
I have the almost exact same chair. It came from my Dutch and German ancestors collection. I think around 100 years old. But your chairs is the only similar one I've found. I just reupholstered it.
It almost looks like they came from an automated factory but the very slight differences in the details make me think that they were hand finished, if not hand built.
