Identifying an Artist?

A painting of a tree in a yard. This painting was given away at my work, an assisted living community. I'd love to know who the artist is and if it's a person related to the previous resident or if it was just bought. I love this painting and will lovingly keep it but Id like to more about the artist if possible.

It was at least framed by Grumbacher in New York. It's 16 by 20. I'm assuming its of a crape myrtle tree but not sure and would love to know what the building behind it is. I'm from Charleston, South Carolina and its definitely a southern scene. Please if anyone has any further info on this wonderful piece of art I'd love to know.

I saw this one also but didnt know if it was the same person. It does seem to be similar though. The signature is very similar too.

It appears this J Bertrand may be a descendent of another famous artist: You can check out the famous artist on WIKI.
"James Bertrand
French | 1823 - 1887

James Bertrand was a French 19th Century painter who was born in 1823. James Bertrand's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $180 USD to $125,249 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 1999 the record price for this artist at auction is $125,249 USD for Ophelia, sold at Christie's London in 2017. The artist died in 1887.
Artist's alternative names: Jean Baptiste Bertrand"

The J. Bertrand paintings at present time, do not appear to be very valuable but who knows what the future holds?

It appears your painting is larger than other paintings online and yours appears to be on canvas. He/she may do different mediums.

There are many more or less famous painters with the initials J. Bertrand, for example:

JEAN-BAPTISTE (JAMES) BERTRAND

J. PAUL BERTRAND

JEAN-FRANCOIAS BERTRAND

JEAN-PIERRE BERTRAND (1937-2016)

But look carefully at the signature on your painting. Sometimes artists indicate next to their signature the year the picture was painted. So the digits on your painting are the year the painting was painted - 1973 (the digit 1 is part of the letter t).

Jean-Baptiste (James) Bertrand was a French painter and lithographer, but he lived in the 19th century (1823-1887). As you now understand, he could not paint your painting in 1973, the signature also does not match www.nicolashakoun.com/.../

Your painting is definitely not painted by Jean-Baptiste (James) Bertrand.

I doubt that J. Paul-Bertrand painted your painting too. I found a dated and signed J. Paul-Bertrand 1925 portrait of an elegant woman 1930.fr/j-paul-bertrand-1925-large-portrait...

Neither the style, nor the period of activity, nor the signature match.

Jean-Pierre Bertrand was born in 1937 and died in 2016 michelrein.com/.../jean-pierre-bertrand
The style of his paintings is not like the style of your painting.

Your painting was painted in 1973 by a little known artist.
There is a royal poinciana tree (Gulmohar / Delonix regia, in English it is also called flamboyant, phoenix flower, flame of the forest tree) in the painting. Delonix regia is noted for its fern-like leaves and flamboyant display of orange-red flowers over summer. In many tropical parts of the world it is grown as an ornamental tree en.wikipedia.org/.../Delonix_regia
