Identifying an Old Table?

Identifying an Old Table? - four legged carved tableHello. I have this very old table that was my Grandma's. Does it look like it's worth anything? There are no markings underneath it. Any remarks would be welcomed to help me out. Thank you.

It is a beautiful table, and it will be hard to assess value without markings. It could be a much cheaper reproduction. I would visit an antiques dealer if I were you.

Hopefully someone else will provide information but this is just beyond my field of furniture knowledge.

There are a lot of antique/vintage furniture forums that may be able to help you. I would suggest you contact several so maybe someone will have knowledge about this piece. They may want a picture of the top also but provide as much date information as possible.

Reddit is a good site but not too easy for beginners - fast answers though. If you join you can always ask for help on posting.

You say very old...can you please be more specific?

I don't mean to this to sound flip, but I have friends who were born in the 1980s who are grandmothers and friends born in the 1960s and 1970s who are great grandmothers--so very old is relative to me, so it could be as newish.

This is a fusion piece (to me) of an Oriental style plant stand, with some mythological figure (still trying to figure out if this is a sun god homage or exactly who he is) and really classic Louis XV table legs.

It is like a Heinz 57 mix of styles which is just fascinating!!

Can you tell how the legs are affixed? Are there screws or nails or dowels? That may help date the piece. Are the carvings smooth or rough to the feel? If they are rough, that would lend it to being hand made.

My very first thought was this is a custom piece made by a pretty skilled craftsman--year TBD.

I could be way off, but I am doubtful this was a mass produced piece, which, if that is the case, no matter how old it is, you can set any price you want for it and if someone is willing to pay it, you will sell it because it is unique and people LOVE unique!

Maybe with a little more info, I can see what else I can dig up.

Thanks!
