It is a magsacar (Hope I spelt that right). Mine is over 20 years old. Also have one that is 15 and will hit the ceiling by next year. I give them a good watering once a week.

Yours is a Dracaena marginata, or Madagascar Dragon Tree, and quite lovely! (Mine is a great deal smaller.)

I had one of those for many years, Never knew what it was called. It started as 3 leaves in a dish garden. I kept putting it in larger pots as it grew, watered it when it was dry, fed it every couple of months. It had leaves all the way from the soil to the top. I trimmed all the leaves except the top 12", down to an inch, then rubbed the dried nubs off after a few weeks.

Then, it really took off! Grew until it touched the ceiling. Not knowing what to do, I snipped off a couple feet at the top. It quickly sprouted more leaves...on 2 separate heads! The only reason I don't still have it is because of some upheavals in my life that caused me to lose my entire gigantic houseplant jungle. Very rewarding tree to grow!

You can cut this plant to the height you want it. It will send out new branches below the cut. Usually it will send out 2 to 3 branches below the cut.
