I have a Basset piece that appears to be from 1970s Nautical collection, but with Keller Brass Co. pulls, and no brass edging. Can anyone help?

I am not sure right now is really a good time to sell but I can tell you this. I am not finding the exact dresser that you have posted here. There are a lot for sale right now and the average sale price in really good condition starts at $350 and goes up from there. The real value of your items is when you can find the exact same item sold recently in your area. That would be the exact value of your item today. Other than this you can try an auction and start at $350 and see if anyone bids on this and the price goes higher.
Now for more about your dresser. Here is a site to help you out. If you can not find what you need here then you will need to speak to an antique dealer in your area. antiques.lovetoknow.com/
Thank you. I can't find it either, but does have the Vintage Basset stamp in it. The wood grain is the same as the Nautical Campaign, but no brass on edging and different KBC pulls.
My feeling is your piece was refurbished and in an attempt to modernize it, the brass trim was removed and the hardware was replaced. If you run your fingers over the edges, can you feel where there was patching? The finish is very streaky, to me, which is why I think it was refinished.
If that is the case, and you are asking to value to sell, you will lose at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the original resale value. Value is regional and supply and demand based.
Can you, when the world gets back together, have a trusted furniture reseller look at it and confirm? They should be able to to give you the value in your town.
Post back with what you learn!
Yes. I found it Free on the side of my road. I do believe I can find the original pulls, if I know the company they are from. I may even be able to put the edging back on, if I do find out it's original, of course. I just wish I could look up 1970's Bassett Nautical Campaign Collection and get an answer. I see the other four pieces, but just not mine.
The top in the daylight looks so bad, I don't think anyone has tried to refinish it.
Your piece fascinates me because as I looked at it again on a bigger screen and saw a few things I did not see before.
I think it is a sideboard or credenza and NOT a dresser.
I also think it had feet at one time, probably peg type legs that were popular in the 1950s and 1960s, maybe bulkier legs--I am still trying to figure that one out. I would be curious to see if the underside has places for screws or shadows that would confirm this.
I think it was redone to look like the Nautical Collection with the handles.
The streaky nature of the piece reminds me of when I was stripping paint from an old nightstand in the 1990s. When I got all the G-d awful green paint off, before I stained it, it looked just like your piece--streaky and worn.
There is a vintage Bassett sideboard that has the lines of your piece here:

It is NOT exact--but it is close. I am trying to find all of my resources for old Basset advertisements and sadly many of the links I kept are broken--and I did not keep anything in paper. I really want to confirm what I am thinking and get very frustrated with broken links. There used to be so many links with vintage catalogs and I am not sure where they have gone to.
The company is still in business, perhaps when the world settles, they can help you figure out exactly what you have. Here is their contact info: www.bassettfurniture.com/
I love meeting a kindred soul who rescues furniture from the side of the road!! Thanks for sharing this piece and offering me a fun mystery to work on!!!
There are no screw holes on bottom. I was thinking the same thing about it being a credenza or side board. There is a number on the back
1000 207. The top has many marks of water stains, dents, and scratches. I did put some lemon oil on it to make it shinier. There aren't any holes that suggest that there was brass edging nail to it, like other pieces in the Nautical Campaign.
Well - it looks like Pghgirl and I have been traveling down the same rabbit hole and it's a wonder we did not bump into each other on the trip.
I'm going to step out on a limb and maybe try to sort some of this out so at least someone might find something that will help.
I feel for sure that your piece is not from the Nautical collection for several reasons:
Your piece has much wider boards on top, bottom and sides (around the entire piece) than the nautical pieces.
Your piece sits flat (but could have had block legs or?) and actually; very few pieces of Bassett furniture sit directly on the floor (mostly desks, etc.) but not positive about that.
Does not look like the nautical brass pieces would have fit on your piece.
If you look closely at all of the pictures in these two listings you will get a very good idea of what a nautical piece looks like:

To me - the pulls actually look like they are original to this piece as there does not seem to be any marks around the pulls.
Question: Where did the information - Kelly Brass Co. come from?
Do the drawers have any other markings? Most of the Bassett furniture has the same Bassett mark on the inside of the drawers but you're only showing the one piece with Bassett.
Where is this piece with the word Bassett located? Is it the same type of wood?
I guess you can see where I'm going with this - is this a true Bassett piece?
Now that that is said I will venture further.
It takes a true gifted craftsman to restore a piece like this to its original design and even then if you were to sell it you would have to state that it had been restored/refurbished by owner or 'someone'. A dealer can many times sell this type for close to same value as an original but rarely can an individual.
My opinion - I think you have a nice piece - Bassett or not - and it would take to a 'makeover' much quicker than a 'restore'.
Makeovers (originals/ one-of-a-kind) can sometimes sell for a good chunk of money.
There are numerous sites that show how to do makeovers and Pinterest is full of ideas but I'll just drop a couple for you to think about.

This is a true piece but the idea is marvelous...

Good luck and be sure to keep us updated on your findings.
Basset mark is in one drawer. Keeler Brass Co. pulls. If sanded it appears the other pulls would fit if I knew the brand on the Basset pulls. The pulls are approximately a 1" center. The wood, however chunky, has the same exact look. Someone may have tried to stain it with a glossier stain to brighten it up because original Nautical is so flat. So hard to know...
Finally found pulls. She has blanket chest listed.
I asked her to please tell me what furniture she got them off of.
So the name on the pulls is Keeler Brass (and not Kelly Brass as first stated) - this is what I thought but just wanted to be sure.
The ad you're looking at with the pulls is from 2017 so I hope information is still available.
I agree that the wood does look very much like the Nautilus series but the shape of your chest is not the same as that series and the brass trim would never fit (even if you could find the brass pieces?)
You may very well have a Bassett piece and I hope I'm proven wrong so please keep us updated with your findings.
You may be able to do a search for both of the pulls on Google images as people get lucky sometimes.
The more I study this the more I see and the more that is posted the more I wonder if this is handmade piece that used pieces parts from other furniture. The sides and all of the seams are so rough looking.... machine made furniture is usually smooth on the sides unless there are there is decorative work. The top usually has a lip or some style to it. No feet and no evidence of feet is surprising also. That brand of pulls was used on a few brands, I believe high point furniture if memory serves or a company from high point NC.
Maybe a cabinet maker could eye ball it and tell you if it is a franken creation.
It doesn't look roughly made to me. It is just old. Joints all line up great. Maybe my camera isn't showing it well.
So I did get a bit of possible information.
It is always a challenge to look at furniture construction via photos, because of shadows and such. Great lead on the hardware! Keep us in the loop!! It is great solving mysteries!!
