I have a Smith Corona XL 2000 electric type writer. The hammer is not making contact with the ribbon. It doesn't move when I type. Everything else is working fine, the ribbon is practically new, and the keyboard is also in good condition. Is this a problem I can fix at home?

The hammer could be bent out of shape or the ribbon could be installed incorrectly
Thank you Judy! The hammer looks pretty straight to me but I'll check to see if I installed the ribbon correctly.
There are some YouTube videos on repairing and troubleshooting this machine. You can put the name and model number in the YouTube search and watch to see if any help.
Also, Jess confirmed recently that this is a current site with typewriter repair shops from around the world.
Maybe one of those folks can help! It can't hurt to call and ask!

Post back what you figure out! My hubby just dug out my old typewriter and now that I know this list is good, I am going to see if I can get my old SC fixed!! I love the sound of a typewriter in the morning :)
