While attending an arts festival, we saw a lamp like this and decided to make our own.
Total Time: 3 hours
Yield: 1
Supplies:
- 1 wire lamp cage
- 6 3/4 elbow pipe fittings
- 3 3/4 tee pipe fittings
- 1 18 inch 3/4 pipe
- 3 6 inch 3/4 pipes
- 3 3 inch 3/4 pipes
- 1 on/off switch
- 1 electrical cord with plug
- 1 light socket
- 1 3/4 to 1 inch reducer
Steps:
- First, drill center of one elbow with 1/2 inch drill bit. Build base of lamp by attaching as shown in second picture, using two 6 inch pipes, four 3 inch, three tee pipes, and four elbows. The drilled elbow will be in the back on one side of the base and will hold the power cord. After tightening all fittings together, feed the power cord starting at the drilled elbow and exiting out the tee pipe in the middle of the base (see picture).
- Second, feed power cord through the 18 inch pipe and tighten 18 inch pipe to base as shown below. Tighten.
- Third, feed power cord through 3/4 to 1 inch reducer and attach to the elbow as shown in the first picture. Tighten. Next, attach the light socket to the 3/4 to 1 inch reducer. Glue if necessary. Mount the light cage around the 3/4 to 1 inch reducer. Add light bulb and add on/off switch near the end of the power cord closest to the elbow on the base.
