Hi, I wonder if anyone could give me some information on this book. Can't find any date but incorporated within it are adverts which look like perhaps from the 1950's. Any info would be great - thanks in advance
You couldn't find a copyright page that tells publisher, date, etc? That is strange. I agree with Judy that these advertisements look much older than 1950's. For instance, Symington's Pea Flour company was started in 1827. Steedman's Soothing Powders was first sold in the early 1800's. Eno's Fruit Salt started in 1852. I'm NOT saying this book is from those exact years, but it certainly could be mid to late 1800's.
Most books like this are facsimiles/reproductions but I did not see this cover although there are thousands of similar books listed for sale online and would take many hours of research to say for sure.
It also appears most facsimiles were published between 1930-1945.
However, another member may be able to find the same cover so be sure to keep checking for new answers.
I'm not sure this type of ads were commonplace in the fairy tale books but maybe I've forgotten.
You will need to show the first pages of the book;
Title page?
Directory page showing names of stories?
Any page showing name of illustrator/artist?
Page showing publishers?
Without some of this information (unless someone finds the exact copy) it will be very difficult to answer your questions.
I can only suggest you take the book to your local library and ask the head librarian for assistance. Sometime they have access to information about complete lines of books that may not be available to us.
Your book does not look in the best condition so that would lower the value no matter the 'current value'.
These ads look more like the late 1800s to early 1900s, not the 1950s. This book is an antique and I would take it to a dealer for an appraisal.
