HI! I bought this table at a thrift shop in Southern CA. I'm wondering how old it might be and why it's only 16 1/2 inches high (4 ft diameter). THANKS! I can't tell what was original or not. I would appreciate ANY comments, thank you!

Almost looks like the pedestal base was added on. Also appears that the top was changed. I found this Imperial Grand Rapids table & the dimensions are somewhat similar:

You might contact this antiques forum to find out more info on your table:

You might also contact the Grand Rapids Museum to see if they can help you identify the table also:
thank u! Yes we are very curious about the history of this table. I bought it to keep, no matter what...but it's so unique- trying to figure out how to raise it to about 29" high. It's 16 3/4" as is.
Hi! It's a beautiful table. Perhaps it's an Asian (perhaps Japanese) style dinner table that was used by sitting on the floor while eating.
I hope that you fell in love with this table and did not purchase it to 'flip'.
It is my personal opinion that your table is not an Imperial table.
I do not believe the 'stand' that is attached is authentic and there is no way to even guess what this stand was originally on or if it has been cut down, but I have never seen any Imperial stand like this.
You did not ask about value, but when a piece of furniture has been 'doctored' such as this one has, it would be impossible to even guess.
You can always ask for more opinions and this site can provide information as to the real brand.

This is a link to the museum customer service department. I feel sure they would be able to confirm the authenticity (or?) so drop them a line:
thank u so much! I bought this for $15 (after many markdowns) at local thrift shop & loved it so much I just knew I'd figure out some way to use it in my home. I'm mostly just curious about it. I'm trying to decide how to raise it higher. I need a 12 inch high base that is at least 16"x16".
I can easily see why you like the table, as the top looks beautiful.
My suggestion would be to do some research on same-size round table tops to see what type/style of stands/legs goes well with the tops.
thank you for this! I never thought about removing the existing base and attaching a whole diff one...yeeeeees.....appreciate ALL your thoughts and ideas....will post when done
I don't think the base is authentic. Right now it looks like an Asian/Traditional, maybe a Chinese Round Low Table on a square Pedestal Base.
Antique Cream Painted French Nesting Side Table Imperial Grand Rapids - Set of 3 is listed for sale on eBay at $750
Imperial Furniture Co., Grand Rapids (1903-1962) made a lot of beautiful tables, but yours really looks very unusual. I think the base was not originally with this table top. It can be seen that the back surface of the table top was painted to somehow unite with the painted base. The metal plate was cleaned of paint and therefore it has scratches.
I would suggest you contact the Grand Rapids Public Museum. grpmcollections.org/
The museum has more than 1,500 rare and out-of-print furniture catalogs that document Grand Rapids' history in the furniture industry.
This museum published online catalogs of Imperial Grand Rapids, you need catalogs dating back to the 1950s

I would say it's a weird mix since the top of the table is French style, like these tables:
Vintage French Hand Painted Floral Nest of Tables

Vintage French style Nesting Tables with Imperial Grand Rapids brass tag, Floral decoration painted on top
www.onesourceauctions.com/
Antique Cream Painted French Nesting Side Table Imperial Grand Rapids

This one is very similar but named Italian Style Cream Floral Decorated Nest of Tables

And the height of the table is more like an Asian table. Therefore, I also think that this table did not look like this originally.
