We found this really cool trunk for a very good price and we are wondering if you have any information on it. Me and my husband would love to know the history behind it if possible. We were told it was from the 1800s but that's all we know. Was also wondering if this beauty is a trunk or a chest. We think it looks like it came off a pirate ship

I don't have any expert advice regarding your trunk but I did verify that the correct term appears to be 'trunk', not 'chest', as chests have a convex (rounded) top. I think the two terms are used pretty interchangeably but I thought it was interesting. Hopefully one of our other members can help you with more information.
It is a flat top steamer trunk. Prices vary widely. I would take it to a dealer for an estimate if I were you.
