You might check on ebay for your stereo:
www.ebay.com/
Please add photos, I think you are confusing something, since I only found this Magnavox antique radio phonograph model 256m
www.youtube.com/
But since there is no more information about Magnavox of such a model, and on this site too www.radiomuseum.org/
then I think you have Magnavox of other model.
Record player and radio combos in wood cabinets are asking $225 or so on eBay. Since you did not submit a picture, I dont know if this is what you have.
Sorry, but we will need pictures of the unit as well as a picture of the information on the back, as that is what research is all about.
Date? Looks like 1955.

Since you wrote that this is a tube record player/radio, I think you have a Magnavox with Webster-Chicago turntable, and Model 256 belongs to the turntable specs, like this Magnavox Model 151H with the turntable specs Model 256-19

256M is model number of the Webster-Chicago record player inside your vintage Magnavox stereo.
'Record changer companies rushed designs in 1948 - 1951 to get something on the market for all new speeds and sizes. This was Webster-Chicago's top of the line 356 - the first 3-speed 3-size changer.' midimagic.sgc-hosting.com/
Here is 1948 Magnavox CR-198H Radio Console with a Webster-Chicago 256 Record Player

You need to look again at your console and find the model number of the Magnavox or add photos of it.
