Could someone tell me what type of furniture this is and from when. All it says in the drawers is Jan 21 '28. And the drawers are hinged.

It looks like traditional furniture. It is almost an antique. I would get a free verbal appraisal from a dealer.
This is from I think January of 1928. Does something have to be over 100 years old to be considered an antique?
It would be technically an antique at 100 years old. But the value isn't going to automatically be more in a couple of years. I would definitely take it into an antique store that specializes in furniture and have them help you out.
The top is pretty damaged and it doesn't look like an expensive piece of furniture. It may have been in a library or office building. That is just a guess though. :)
