What is the value, wood type, age, and style name of my Brandt coffee table? The model number appears to be 4978 and/or 857-50. It also has a glass top but unsure if that is original. Thanks

Ok. Saw it on the big screen. Yes, it has a trestle connection. It is from 1949, mahagony, had a glass top. The original newspaper ad calls it authentic 18th century design. The side pattern is called harp lyre. It is in the style of Duncan phyfe.
As for value that is going to be regional. You would be safe starting at $700 and taking best offer which could be as low as $25 if you are in a high supply, low demand area. It is a gorgeous piece. Post back how your sale goes.
Any chance you could send me a copy or tell me where to get a copy of the original ad that you mentioned.

Hi mellomain1996. I must apologize that I am not posting a photo.
First, my sources are primarily paid subscription sites that I use for my reselling and virtual assistant businesses. For this particular research I was using newspapers.com. The challenge with this site I have found is sometimes photos are too dark to make screenshots, so usually I just move on to another edition and find a better shot to post. So when I did this today, I saw something in the better photo that caught my attention.
In the clearer photo I saw that everything matched with the exception of the edges in the better photo show the piece are slightly rounded, and yours are clearly squared off.
This could mean they made the table in both slightly rounded and squared off versions and my first find is correct, but I cannot be positive until I find a clean example of that configuration. I will continue to search and will ask one of my mentors for guidance to see if one of them knows if they made it both ways in 1949.
One thing I have learned in my work is that sometimes custom orders factor in to the building of pieces and years back buyers who had a little extra cash could ask the store to get them a table with X Y and Z configuration which may not match exactly the A B C configuration that the buyer would get if they walked into the store.
Why research can be a challenge is that most of the sources (even the actual company documents I use) do not always give the model numbers, so you have to do screens next to each other comparison to make sure you have a right match. The first photo passed that line by line test but it could be that what I saw as squared off was actually smudged ink because the curving in the clear photo is very subtle.
For reselling purposes you would be safe to give the measurements, the style of the end pieces, which are Harp Lyre, and the brand and most buyers who are seeking such a piece will find you! Please post back how your sale goes and where you are! I like to keep track of values on pieces for my work! Thanks for sharing!
Trestle tables are asking over $3000 on Chairish.
Is my table a trestle table?
Your table is a harp lyre style. I cant tell from my phone if it has a trestle connection. I am still digging through my records to find more info on year and value. Will post back.
Just wanted to add a few thing because I can't stop thinking about this table (I love the style and wish I had space in my house for it, but sadly I don't).
The original ad for the table called it "finished to reduce wear" and "hand rubbed with alcohol resistant finish". That cracked me up! I guess those post-prohibition 1940s folks drank quite a bit and ruined tables that were not protected :)
In 1949 the table sold for 16.70 or you could by two tables from the series for 32.00!
There was a matching round end table that was sold with it (same harp lyre but in the case of the end table it was just one in the center--so it was more like a mini cocktail table).
There was a similar small rectangle table in the ad that they seemed to say went with it, but I am not sure why except it had the Duncan Pfyfe style legs--but no harp lyre.
The last tidbit is the wood in the pieces is supposed to be from Honduras--per the advertisement. That is something I don't often see in ads so I found that curious also.
Anyhow--you have a very special piece that was built to last and be handed down over the generations!! I hope someone will love it and pay a tidy sum for it if you sell.
About style name
Such tables are called Duncan Phyfe (more correctly Duncan Phyfe style, since genuine Duncan Phyfe furniture was made in the 19th-century and it is really very expensive)
or Lyre Base or Harp or Harp Violin Coffe Table

About age
I think it was made in the early 20th century.
About wood type
Or it was made before 1936 or I doubt this is Mahogany. Mahogany furniture dating from 1936 to the mid-1950's often carries a Mahogany Association label. The Association issued two types of labels: a Blue Label indicated a veneer of genuine mahogany; a Red Label that guaranteed the piece was made of solid genuine mahogany.
The Mahogany Association was established in 1936 as a guarantee to buyers that their furniture was constructed from genuine mahogany and not some lesser wood stained to resemble mahogany. Each furniture manufacturer had their own Association label carrying their company's individual number. For example, all mahogany furniture made during that time period by Brandt, carried a label with the number 155; no other company could use that number.
