Curious about this '43 hope chest.

The stamp and the number style tell us it is Lane from 1943. Units manufactured between 1912 and 1987 were recalled due to fatalities of young children victimized by a faulty lock design; you'll want to see whether the original lock was replaced. Type of wood and exterior condition also will affect value. All that said, the value may be a couple hundred U.S. dollars.
It is marked Lane and you have a serial and model number!
Worthpoint has one that you can find the last selling value there if you have a membership. I dropped mine:

Values are regional and very supply/demand based. If you are in a place where there is a high supply and low demand, you will get much less than the other way around.
I am in a moderate supply, low demand area and you can't give these away here, but every place is different.
On average nationally (in the US), for the less ornate (plain style) chests, they can sell for $10-$300, more ornate can sell for higher--although I have never seen one sell for more than $500, art deco (waterfall style) can sell for higher--pristine for in the $800-1000 range--but there are many variables including condition (as well as supply and demand) factors that can impact selling prices.
Yours looks well loved and it has some character to it, which may decrease the price a little.
If it was mine, I would throw it to the universe at a high prices and take whatever someone offered.
Thanks for sharing!! I am sad that these lovelies did not hold their resale value!! They were every girl of an ages dream when I was young!
WorthPoint sometimes has good information (provided by sellers) but their membership cost is through the roof.
When I checked this chest out, it was sold on eBay over 2 years ago and original price seems to have been $300 (located in an antique store) but best offer was accepted and local pick up. It looks to be in better condition than this one but pictures (of both chests) are very low quality so it's difficult to tell for sure.
I think this is a Lane Company chest since the serial number is the date it was manufactured written backwards. I would contact them here: www.lanefurniture.com/
I think this is manufactured by the Lane Corporation, because the serial nu
Now I'm curious about 'what are you curious about'?
Undoubtedly you already knew it was a Lane 'hope chest' as the name is clearly imprinted on the lid and you knew how Lane serial numbers dated their chests as you stated '43 hope chest.
So - did you want to know the value? I cannot think of any other information you would be curious about.
Final value will depend a lot on where you are located as these are heavy and very costly to ship. If it was a sought after antique then someone may pay shipping but as a general rule sellers list these as 'local pick up only' and different areas of the country have entirely different values for any brand of cedar chest/hope chest/blanket chest. You may be in an area that has no use for one of these or just the reverse. The only way to find out is to 'test the waters'.
Lane made several styles of cedar chests in 1943 so it will be difficult to find an exact copy of your chest. Also, many sellers do not know how to read the serial number for the date so they do not put a date in their description. You can check online listings and find that, in general, asking prices are all over the place with hardly any reason for the high or low prices.
You do not state the condition of your chest (looks like nicks on front?) and that will be a big factor in the final value.
If you wish to sell your hope chest then I would suggest you list it on several sites like; Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, LetGo, IOffer and any other sites you're familiar with.
You can clean up your chest, take some very good pictures (look at some chests on sale to see the type of pictures you need), write a good description with measurements and condition and start your price high - $400 with best offer considered and local pick up only and see if you receive any offers. Leave it listed for several weeks/months and if you do not receive any offers then lower the price and wait again.
Hope this was what you were curious about.
