Grandmother had this large plate and left to me. It's very hand painted contemporary look is different from most TST. Have you ever seen it? Is it rare?

Taylor Smith Taylor (TST) is moderately priced dinnerware and since thousands of pieces were produced very few pieces seem to be valuable (as in value over $25-$50).
Also, larger platters are not used very often in the normal course of today's everyday life.
It appears you have a plate hanger on your platter (which may not be a good idea as it can damage the rim) so you are probably using it as a wall hanging. This may appeal to a small number of people.
Your platter is called a 'chop' plate/platter and appears to have been made in sizes 11" & 12".
eBay is usually the best place to search items as their site has for sale items and also 'sold' items. I did not see any similar platters in their sold listings but did find your same platter listed for sale.
Items listed for sale do not indicate value unless it is sold. Only a sold item will show what someone was willing to pay for that item - sold price = current value.
This item has been listed for sale for over a year and has not sold at this price: $44.95.
You can place a watch on this item to see if it sells:

You can always check with Replacements if you want more information. They now have a new way to find your pattern information:
The middle numbers are supposed to represent the manufacturing date. It would appear this pattern was produced in 1942-1943.
History:
Taylor, Smith and Taylor, or TST, was purchased by Anchor Hocking in 1971, who stopped producing the brand in 1981.

A good place to look is doing a search on e-bay. Put in a description and the makers name from the back of the plate, and the plate number.
You can send the picture to replacements.com and they will identify it for you and give you an offer to buy it. The price they give you will be less than you would get if you sold it yourself, however.
