It's worth about $70 USD.
Can you give me more info? Where was she made, etc.?
Hi This is Lesley O'Connell-Maritz. This Bartholomina Doll is made from earthenware by Carolyn McSweeney(Metcalfe) She was made in South Africa and is the 48 th doll of no. 15 in the first series of 20 dolls made by Carolyn and her sister Jenny Ferreira (Metcalfe). Their neice made 3 of the dolls in this series.A further series of 5 name dolls plus a doll to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the 1820 settlers in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape, followed.
It would really help if you could look on the back of the neck for any markings at all. If you can find some it will help to narrow down the doll maker of this doll. All famous doll makers will mark their dolls. Otherwise, if the doll has no marking what so ever this doll could be just old and not worth so much at all.
If you can find marking on the doll you can take her to an antique auction house. They have people there that can appraise the doll for you. Considering the doll has a broken leg and not really repaired this will take away from the value of your doll.
theses are the markings at the back of the doll. She was made in 1932. Other than the broken leg she is in fine condition.
Please note :your doll was made in 1982
I just want to confirm that this Doll was made in 1982 in South Africa as part of a series of glazed earthenware dolls Called Bartholomina dolls . I think Carolyn Metcalf designer still lives in Montegue Cape Province and is now known as a ceramicist and a fine portrait painter .
