They are selling several of the Eskimo dolls on eBay right now and they are different size dolls. They range from 19" down to 8" dolls. The price of these dolls varies also. Most of the dolls listed are only classified as Vintage Eskimo Doll and a small description of the doll is added. it does not appear that any of them are from a manufacture except one I saw that said on it Regal Toy and gave a description of the doll. These dolls range in price from $8 to $176 asking price for the doll. All the doll sellers of these dolls do not give out any other information on the dolls they are selling online. You might want to try and find some markings on the back of the doll to see who has actually made this doll. Other than this there is not a lot of other information to go on. Most dolls like this are sold in tourist shops for people who are visiting Alaska.
I believe he probably came from a gift/souvenir shop either in Alaska or from an airport shop.
My daughter and I have visited Alaska and I remember seeing similar dolls in the shops - they always had fur (or faux fur) and cloth faces. We also visited a small gathering where women were making these dolls and at that time most of the clothes were attached to the dolls.
There are similar dolls for sale on eBay and also maybe sold but most likely the value will be less than $20.
Post this little guy on social media sights. Someone has or knows the history of this doll. You can also check with local collectors for answers!
Interesting piece. He looks like a primitive Inuit hunter. Can you tell if the fur is real? Are the boots leather? What material is the spear?
Thanks...
The fur and leather appear to be real. The spear has a shiny metal tip. The face is a slightly ribbed material.
