Could somebody please help me identify the approximate age and origin of this chest/trunk?

You need to know who manufactured it. Look underneath and on the back for a label or plaque.
Learning about trunks can be a blast!!! This one is really neat. Fascinating!
Maybe these sites at the end of the message can help you figure out what you have. It is hard for the average lay person (even ones like me who have been playing with old stuff since, well, forever).
The challenge with trunks it is usually impossible to find an exact match to identify them, because they got damaged, handy men (and gals) modified them, some have travel stickers all over them, some have been refinished, etc. These were very personal pieces so an exact match is almost like a unicorn. You may have to guestimate what you have if there are no markings. Sometimes the locks themselves can tell you information...but sometimes that is not useful because you will find new locks on VERY old trunks....back to the modifications.
Then if you are trying to value it to sell, that opens another trunk full of challenges!! I can give you hints on that if you can get more information!!
Thanks for sharing. Here are some sites to help you get started!
