Installing a Dryer Vent?

January 25, 2021

Could I put a pair of panty hose on the back of the dryer to dry clothes since I don't have a vent pipe to dry clothes? Is it safe to do that?

Maybe I'm reading your question incorrectly. Do you mean use panty hose *instead* of a vent pipe to direct air from the dryer to the outside? No. Pantyhose melt very easily upon contact with heated surfaces.

I think you are suggesting using pantyhose as your dryer vent hose. I cannot see how this would work well. The panty hose would allow any moisture and lint to vent into the laundry room or into the walls, instead of outside. The added moisture could cause mold issues.

I can't see how you could attach the pantyhose through the walls anyhow as there is no way that one pair would be long enough. And venting without a pipe is a good way to get a house fire.

Vents are not very expensive, only about $10. I would invest in one for the safety of your home and family.

Good luck!

I just had washer/gas dryer hookups installed in my condo. Now I have to get a dryer duct vented to the outside installed. Can the dryer duct go straight down which is the easiest and closest?

It would vent into the carport. I live on the second floor of 3 floors. The 1st floor is the the open carport.

It would depend on how open the car port is and at what height the vent would be. If it were an electric dryer, it would be no problem. Since it is a gas dryer, it burns fuel which produces carbon monoxide, a deadly odorless gas.

If I were you, I'd have your gas provider come and check it out to see if it is safe; they normally do this free of charge. Better to be safe than sorry.
