Some guys have an apartment and want to rent out the living room for $200 a month which is incredibly cheap; however, without a door it is inconvenient as well. I do not like putting up a curtain because there is little privacy. I cannot build a door because it is against apartment policy. Is there any good way to actually put up a door that is temporary, even if there is a couple of small holes left, which I could always cover up when lease expires?

What about a screen door or storm door? They are cheaper, easier to put up and take down, and can be painted to make solid and give privacy.
You could create a slide sort of cover from a length of dry wall - or build a door out of plywood and mount on hinges. If the curtains were very heavy and even lined, they would give you privacy - mount a small rug on the door & then use a screen to cover the entrance into the room?
