I am 18, and just had a legal guardianship terminated. Now that it has been terminated, my ex guardian refuses to communicate with me at all. I have a savings account which her name is on, and she refuses to sign off on it so I can access the funds. She also refuses to return my birth certificate and Social Security. Additionally, upon the start of the termination, all of my mother's and my personal property was moved to her house, and I am now finding out that she has either stolen, or sold without my knowledge or permission, a lot of the items, some which are family heirlooms, and cannot be replaced.
She has blocked me from calling, and on all social media. I also found out upon the termination, that she has went through over $15,000 of SS funds I received from my deceased father, after telling me that she was saving it all for me for college. I have filed a misuse of funds claim against her with Social Security already, and I would like to file something with the courts requesting return of my property and savings.
I have since discovered proof that she had sold some of my things online, and took photos of the ads she had on there, although she has since deleted them. I am just 18, have no resources, and am truly disgusted with her actions. What recourse do I have? The value of the property is over the $5000 mark, so small claims court is not an option. Please help!

It is difficult to understand your ex-guardian's behavior! As you do not have resources, it would obviously be difficult to hire an attorney. You can, however, try pursuing actions through the Iowa Legal Aid. There are usually no fees, however, whatever directions and actions you choose will take time as legal aid societies usually do not have the resources to fast-track suits through the legal system.
