I bought my 12 week old boy Marley two weeks ago from a gypsy family from a gumtree. He was the last one out of the litter. I met his mother, who is a long haired chihuahua. However, he keeps getting mistaken for a Jack Russell pup. Does anyone know if he is a cross or a pure chihuahua?

Sooooo Cute! Marley looks like a purebred to me. Here are some pictures of other Chihuahua's that look like Marley! pixabay.com/
A search on Bing.com shows several photos of Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix puppies. Your puupy does look like some of the dogs on this site.
Cute pup - of course he has a lot of chihuahua breeding but considering where/who you purchased him from it would be very doubtful if he is purebred chihuahua.
I do not know what you paid for your Marley but most purebreds cost several hundred dollars and up in the thousands according to their parent's background.
Purebred pups have to have no type of other breeds in their family background and this usually means only professional breeders have this type of pets for sale.
You can always discuss this with your vet when you take him for his first year shots/vaccinations but this is a very young pup and he will show some changes over the next several months and maybe a better opinion can be given.
Jack Russell? Maybe - Jack Russell dogs are generally larger dogs than the chihuahua and have different personalities.

My family has had many chihuahuas over the past 60 years but only one purebred and he was a gift to my daughter (long haired show dog background usually selling for several thousand dollars) but all the others did have some type of mix in their background (no matter what the seller told us).
However; they all 'looked' exactly like the pictures of purebred dogs and most all of them weighed less than 5-6 pounds so most people thought they were purebred.
I do not believe knowing the 'mix' will make any difference to how you feel about your Marley but should you really want to know then a DNA test is the only way to find out for sure.
DNA test kits are sold online, pet stores and vets and the cost usually falls between $45 & up according to how far back the testing goes. The cheapest kit will usually tell you everything about your pup.
I want to hug Marley!! So cute!! Has the vet weighed in as he/she can see what I can't...teeth, jaw, haunches, bone structure etc.
Post back what you learn! Wishing you lots and lots and lots have happy adventures together!
He does look like a cross between a Jack Russell and a chihuahua. I think that the people who you bought this from did not tell you the truth about this and sold you a dog that they claimed was a pure breed and he really isn't.
