Is My Dog a Chihuahua?

Is My Dog a Chihuahua? lanky small dog with large rounded earsMy puppy, Reeses, is adorable. I've been told that he is a long hair Chihuahua, but some people have doubts. I wanted to see what others think.

I think Reeses may have some chihuahua in his bloodline but I also think he's mixed with some type of terrier. One thing is certain, he is adorable.

I love Reeses name and sweet puppy face!!!

Definitely a mix based on my love of fur kids...not an expert!

The tail and long body look like a long hair dachshund (which may mean he is a chi-wienie).

There could be a little terrier mixed in with the longer legs and high haunches or that could be from the hound.

Your vet can give you a good estimate by looking the teeth, jaw, hips etc.

He is very sweet and I just want to hug him! Wishing you a wonderful life together!!!

I think he is full blooded. You can do a dna test to be sure

Well - we all agree that Reeses is adorable!

I have had 2 long haired Chihuahuas and something that I noticed is that almost all long haired Chihuahuas carry their tail curled over their body. You can check this out with photos on Google.

The second difference that I noticed is that Reeses ears seem more rounded, as, from my experience, a pure bred has more pointed ears and their ears are further apart on their head.

You can check some of this out with photos on Google.

Does it really matter? Probably not as its for sure you like just as he is.

The most important thing that you can do right now is to be sure Resses has all of his first year shots/vaccinations as they could make a big difference in his health in the future. Please do not neglect to do this (hopefully you have already had him for his first round of shots). Here is a link that explains how important taking a pup to a vet can be.

If you ever become really interested in knowing his true breed than you can always purchase a DNA kit as these are very reasonably priced right now. Most all pet stores sell them as well farm stores and always online.

Could your cutie be part Papillon? (Sp) He sure is cute. My deer head chi has his tail curled up on his back most of the time. Either way hes a cute lil guy.
