Is my dog a purebred Chihuahua? She's supposed to be a deer head Chi, but I think she looks like a Jack Russell. She was my nana's dog and apparently she got papers when she bought her, but can't find them. I'm thinking maybe someone has given her papers that aren't legitimate

She looks purebred. The only way to know for sure is a DNA test.

I say she does look very chihuahua-ish to me, what with the large ears and pointed snout and bulging eyes. If she has papers it's probbly good to rely on it. Nothing save the coulouring makes me think jack russell

She may have a small amount of Jack Russell mix but I tend to think mostly Chihuahua.
- She sure looks like my son's Chihuahua and he has papers (his is very close to purebred).
- I believe Jack Russell puppies have flop ears and not the standup type your puppy has. She also seems to have the slightly bulging eyes of a Chihuahua.
- Here are some photos of Jack Russell puppies:

- The only way to be sure of the mix would be with a DNA test. Kits are readily available from your vet, pet stores, farm stores, (even many Walmart type stores now), as well as online. The cost usually runs $40 to over $200 based on how extensive you want to be.

- Your puppy is young and hopefully you have already started her on a schedule for her first year shots/vaccinations as this is the most important time of her life.
- Be sure to check out what she needs her first year:
