Is My Pit Bull Full Blooded?

Is My Pit Bull Full Blooded? - tan and white dog with a tennis ballI was told he was a pure blood fawn blue nose Pit. I've had him since he was about 6 weeks and he is now 6 months old, but his legs haven't gotten very much longer. He is very muscular however and weighs about 45 pounds now. Here are some pix.

What a healthy looking pup!
Looks can be deceiving, especially in a very young puppy as they change rapidly at this young age. Do you have reason to doubt what information you received? Do you know the puppy's background or are you just going by the information supplied? Did you pay the high cost for a genuine pure bred?

The only way to be sure is with a DNA test and these can cost anywhere between $65 to 200 dollars. DNA test kits can be bought on line or you can have your vet conduct the test. The higher the number of breeds in a company's test the more accurate the results.
Here is a link to one test kit that has been highly recommended but they are sold in local pet stores as well. (the very latest test kit).

He looks purebred, but only a DNA test will give you a definitive answer.

I'd agree, he's got the features and build of a purebred, but I would test if you're not sure and need to know.

Not really an answer but a question. Is this your dog? Just curious because someone posted this dog a few days ago saying it was hers but died a few years ago of old age.

There is no such thing as a pure bred Pit Bull. This is why they are not AKC registrable. Todays Pit bull Terrier has become a title of dog with Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and American Staffordshire like characteristics. Pit Bull terriers are a mixture of breeds for what people want and while there are long varied lineage of the dogs they are not registrable with AKC due to the abundance dissimilarities.

The origin of the Pit Bull was not the name of the dog it was a tittle of the dog. In this day, it is not specific to the Staffordshire anymore. it stands breeds as well. Even Pitbull has many types that separate them. further separating the differences of the dog.

Your dog looks to be a American Bully with a classic build or maybe Am Staff or a mix of those two. Without a ped you can't say for certain what your dog is. Pitbull is a broad term used to lump dogs of a certain look under the same label. Pitbull is a actual breed not type of dogs. And they don't come in this blue fawn color. Only a handful of apbt from a specific line produce these"blue dogs"but it's not intentional and they are kinda rare. However the Am Bully and Am Staff do produce these colors and since they are bred for show and looks mainly these coat colors are common.

Most of the pitbull or pitbull mixes ppl have that aren't registered are bully breed mixes or Am Bullies being called pitbull especially if it's a blue dog. But once again without a ped/papers you most likely have a BBM/Bully breed mix of those dogs. And anyone giving or selling you a pup by color calling it a pit are most likely backyard breeders or ppl with pets who don't know what they have other than what they have been told when they got theirs. Either way you have a nice looking dog.

There is no such thing as a full blooded pit bull. Pit bull is a general term that refers to several breeds, including the American Staffordshire Terrier, the American Pit Bull Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

the blue nose pit bull is not an entirely separate breed of dog, it's simply a pit bull who happens to have a blue nose. Same with red nose. Only a color. Backyard breeders have come up with these terms to get more money.

The American Pit Bull Terrier
Height: 17 to 21 inches
Weight: 30 to 60 pounds

The American Staffordshire Terrier
Weight 5080 lb
Height 1820 in

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Weight: 24 to 38 lbs.
Height: 14 to 16 inches
