Is My Tongue Piercing Infected?

Is My Tongue Piercing Infected?I've had my tongue piercing in for over 10 years, and recently I took it out due to an operation. After a month of it out, I've decided to put it back in. However once in, my tongue instantly swelled up and a massive hard lump formed around the hole. One big lump, from top of the piercing to the bottom of it, and due to the pain, I had to take it out again. It feels like scar tissue has been agitated and it hurts a lot. So not sure if it could be an abscess or just an irritation and it will go away, or I actually need to seek help? Shall I put it back in and see if it goes down or leave it out?

Sorry to hear that. I hate when I have to take piercings out. Its probably scar tissue, but if it hurts or swells you should check with your piercer. Good luck

You probably don't want to take risks with your tongue, but if you want to first try gargling assiduously with hydrogen peroxide, or putting manuka honey on it, then you may be OK

If you have any sort of fever you must go to the doctor immediately. Or radiating pain.

I would leave it out till it sorts itself out

Yeah im first trying to gargle with salt water solution, there's no fever or puss coming out so ill see how it goes, but If it doesn't get any better ill go see a doctor at that point.

It looks like scar tissue to me. Keep the tongue accessory out.

This can be caused by poor hygiene, infection or response to allergic reaction. You should ask as your doctor for help with this, or try this link for helpful tips to heal- www.americanceliac.org/.../
