She is a rescue and the lady who had saved her from a bad living condition told me the family she originally came from claimed her father was a teacup size and her mother a standard size. She currently weighs 5.6 pounds and is 4 months old in the picture where she's laying down (the other two were around 3 months old).
She does the Chi shaking when nervous or cold and has a food aggression (mostly with treats or toys) that I'm working on with her but she is a sweetheart. I love her no matter what she is but I'm curious to hear opinions as a man waiting at the vet the same time I was said she didn't looks like a full Chi to him, but the lady I adopted her from has two Chihuahuas herself and said this one is a deer head Chi.

She looks like a full Chihuahua. She is taking after her mother as far as size. She is past the tea cup size and weight.
OMG! What a face!! I just want to hug her! I would ask the vet to weigh in. I don't think she looks pure...those back legs look a bit too thick and the weight at this age is a little high. The body length almost looks like a dachshund. The head is definitely deer style. It is possible both parents were chi mixes and she is getting a little bit of Heinz 57 going on!! Post back what the vet says!! Enjoy your sweet baby!! Wishing you many, many, many happy ventures together!
I agree with both of the answers you've gotten so far. Your puppy is too large at this stage of its life to be a teacup Chihuahua. However, it does have a lot of Chihuahua characteristics. I think there's a really good chance your puppy's parents were not purebred but instead were Chihuahua mixes.
I do believe the dog is Chihuahua for sure, but not so sure about the Teacup breed. She is too big right now to be a teacup and if anything she is taking after the mother who was a standard size dog. She is adorable and I really won't worry too much about all of this unless you are planning on breeding her later on. If you really decide to do this then please get her a DNA test to make sure she is not mixed with any other breed. I really am not a fan of breeding dogs like this but there are some people who love to have at least one litter so they can keep the blood line going.
Hi!
What a sweetie! I absolutely agree that she is a deer-head chihuahua. The shape of her head and her ears show me that. I have a deer-head chihuahua, as well as an apple-head chihuahua.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful baby!
Robyn
She looks full blooded to me.
So cute!
Pretty young to really tell what other breeds she may have but will probably always show a lot of the deer head chihuahua features.
Weight is pretty high for being only 4 months old but then all pets can be different at this young age.
If you're really curious about the breeding you can get a DNA test kit and find out for sure.
These tests can be purchased online, pet stores and vets and prices range from $40-several hundred according to how much information you're looking for.
Thank you everyone so much for your helpful and sweet comments!
The vet weighed in saying they believe she is pure Chi, though as far as a DNA test goes I'm not that worried and don't see the need for it right now as I have no plans to breed her and she is getting spayed at 6 months old. She's a character and keeps everyone in the household laughing. Here's a few more pictures for you all.
