Silver Answer Medal for All Time! 440 Answers This beautiful bangle is made of copper wire from an old transformer. It will cost you absolutely nothing. All you need is crocheting skills and patience.
Total Time: 1-2 Hours
Supplies:
- copper wire from old transformer with diameter 0.5 mm
- copper wire from old transformer with diameter 0.1 mm
- crochet hook 1.5 mm (7 steel)
- crochet hook 1.1 mm (13 steel)
- needle
- wire cutters
- magnifying glasses / headband magnifier (optional)
Steps:
- First you have to know the length of the bangle: hold your hand as if you were putting on a bangle (bring all of your fingers together) and measure around the hand at the widest point with a tape measure or a strip of paper.
- Make the first chain without tightening the knot. Crochet a chain of the length you need using thick wire (0.5 mm) and hook 1.5 mm. To get even round loops, stick your hook into each already crocheted loop so that the loop takes a round shape of shaft. The total number of loops (together with the connecting loop) should be divided by 3 (I got 75 loops for a length of 20 cm).
- Connect ends of crocheted chain to get circular shape.
- Crochet using thin wire (0.1 mm) and hook 1.1 mm: 1 ch, 2 sc in every loop of chain, at the end 1 sl st. Then pick out the loops using the needle (discern the loops).
- Continue crochet in round: 1 ch, 1 sc in every loop, at the end 1 sl st. Then straighten every 3rd loop with the needle.
- Continue crochet in round: 1 ch, *1 sc, skip 2 loops 1 dc, 3 ch, 7 dc on previous dc, skip 2 loops. Repeat from *.
- Finish off crochet.
I would recommend you to put a protective coating on the bangle (Renaissance wax or Johnsons paste wax).
