My Janome Sewist 780DC will not pick up the bobbin thread. I have replaced the needle and made sure the reel of thread and the bobbin thread are the same.
What else can I try?
You can try to remove the cam, then removed the casing for the bobbin. There are 2 levers on each site to release this. Now do a good cleaning. Put back the housing. Turn the wheel and check to see if this moves from right to left as the needle moves up and down. Now lock the bobbin back in place. Make sure the thread is locked at the top.

Wont pickup bobbin thread when sewing.
Make sure you are using a brand new needle. Bent/damaged/dull needles frequently will fail to pick up the thread.
If it continues to skip stitches, it most likely has a needle/hook timing issue--the needle arrives at the bobbin at the wrong time to intercept the bobbin thread.
There are web sites and videos available that discuss sewing machine timing, or you can take it for service.

The needle is not picking up the lower thread, I have cleaned the machine but the bobbin is not being picked up
Doesn't pick up bobbin thread
1. The bobbin may be in backwards.
2. The bobbin thread & top thread need to be pulled to the back before starting the stitching
3. You need a ballpoint rather than universal needle to sew on t-shirt knits.
4. the needle is in the machine backwards
5. Make sure the needle is the correct one for the fabric being sewed
6. Needle inserted wrong in the needle holder
7. Warped needle
8. Warped bobbin
9. Also could be a timing problem
These are really nice machines and Janome is a very good company. Their local stores have always been very helpful anytime I had a problem (and they do not act like I'm a dummy for asking the question) so maybe you could get help if your problem isn't solved right away.
Did you buy your machine from a local store? It really does not matter as the stores usually have very good trained personnel that can help solve a problem like this as it could be more than one thing causing the trouble. They can also help you learn how to keep your machine running in tip-top shape all the time. I have also attended local classes (usually free) that helped me a lot.
If you do not know of a local store you can Google Janome with your zip code and find one near you or get the phone number and give them a call. I have also sometimes found knowledgeable people through my craft stores (Michael's or Jo Ann's). I just think it would be a good idea to get to know some of these people as they have classes and postings all the time. These can be a big help.
Janome does have a web site that you can ask a question of their forum but I do not know how quickly they offer help.
You did not say if you still had your manuals (these do seem to disappear sometimes). here is a link to a free download.
I have the Janome Sewist 521. My machine won't pick up the bobbin thread. I doubt it's the timing! The thread is not moving down at all :( The timing is spinning, but can't catch the thread because it is not moving an inch.
Are you saying it is the needle that isn't moving down? Is your machine the type that you have to disengage the needle to fill the bobbin? If so, make sure it got re-engaged.
The bobbin spindle isnt moving. Needle goes down but the bottom with the bobbin thread is not moving and therefor thread is not being picked up :(
If a Janome Decor Computer DC3050 isn't picking up the spool thread can it be fixed easily or is there likely to be a major problem? Everything else works fine.
Many times the bobbin is inserted backwards. Easy fix.
