I have a Janome, Decor Excel II 5024. The reverse button makes a click when I push it down, but it does not reverse the feed dogs. Underneath, there is a long wire with a hook at the end by the feed dog changing "barrel thing". I don't know what it is called, a cam? This hook moves back and forth when the reverse button is pushed, but it isn't moving anything under the machine to change the direction of the feed dogs. I can manually move that cylinder, but then it is either stuck in forward, or in reverse. Is there a part I'm missing? How can I fix this?

There is a broken part in your machine - this is not a home repair. You're going to need to take your machine to a professional. Look in the local phone directory for a repair tech with Janome experience.
Yes, any sewing machine repair tech could likely do the repair properly but a genuine Janome tech will have access to the exact service manual and genuine parts.
