John Deere Riding Mower Stalls When Blades Engaged?

My John Deere ride on mower rides fine, but as soon as I engage the blades it stutters and stalls. It is driving me around the twist. Can anyone please help?

There is a safety switch under the seat. It disables the mower unless someone is sitting on it. It seems to have malfunctioned, and must be replaced.
