My husband turns 40 this year and 3 days later my eldest turns 16. I need ideas for a joint birthday party or something special.

My first thought was a car themed party...so 40 is not quite an antique car, but it is a classic and 16 is driving age in most states!
So something with a car theme could be cute!
The best selling car in 1980 was an Oldsmobile Cutlass, but one of those that lasted the longest (I had one and drove it until it literally rusted away) was a Chevy Citation.
You could have a cake made to look like a car, everyone could get a Matchbox or Hotwheels car as a door prize, etc. Pinterest is loaded with fun ideas!!!

Costume them party(rock/pop,country,hip hop, Bowling, Family dinner!
Go out for supper to your favourite restaurant.May be go to a movie you all want to see.Do 40- small gifts for your husband and 16 small gifts for your son.Do dinner at home invite a few friends over.
