Keeping Bottled Water Cool in Car Trunk?

Bronze Post Medal for All Time! 219 Posts

How do you keep a case (12 pk-10ozs) of bottled water cool in the summer in your trunk? I like to keep bottled water in my car, but now that summer is approaching I was wondering how I was going to keep the water cold since the trunk is so hot in the summer time. Any ideas?

Freeze them, then keep them in a cooler. As the day wears on, they will melt some but you should still be able to use them when you need.

Poor but proud has a good suggestion. However, I would like to know why you need to keep so many bottles of water in your trunk? And wouldn't it be much better environmentally to get a refillable water bottle and just keep it with you in the car?

I use to carry a 2 liter of ICE and a chilled 2 liter of coke then I used foil bubble wrap made a container then used a back pack just slip the foil setup in your back pack helps if it is insulated toward your back get some gorilla tape to make the custom foil container it holds up very well. As the water on the ice melted I poured coke in the ice bottle and got my drink. If you are wanting smaller servings chilled you can get a neoprin tube to carry up to 6 12 oz cans in IDK how many water bottles they carry I would do the same one frozen the next chilled best yet is you slip it over your head carry it like a knap sack so you can quickly toss it on a seat and have your hands free. Another thing we do is use a camelback we either freeze it leaving some of the water out for expansion (PITA tube freezes and you have to wait for it to defrost to get a drink) I have figured a way to place ice in the bladder what you do is get a plastic cup with ice in it cover the cup with the bladder then you shake getting the ice to fall into the space do this until you fill it then add chilled water from the fridge.

I do this not only to enjoy a refreshing drink but you find the back pack filled with ice will help keep you cool as you walk. It makes a huge difference when you have this on your back you can full with ice at any C store ask the clerck BEFORE you start to fill they love to over charge if you don't ask first. Never forget the ice vending machines that are all over the place. They can vend 16 lbs of ice if you need it bagged or 20 lbs if you have your ice chest usually $1.50 -$2. It helps to keep a few insulated cups and a clean ice chest in your car. You never know when you might need to keep something protected from heat. It helps to park in the shade too.
