Keeping a Cat from Scratching a Wound on His Cheek?

My cat Mig got into a fight with one of my other cats and got a sore on his neck. Then another on his cheek the next week. I cleaned both and put an Elizabethan collar on and the neck wound healed, but the cheek one has not because every time I take it off he scratches it! I've tried the body sweater, silicon nail tips, a collar, a backpack, and so far nothing works. It's been months now. I was thinking acupuncture. Any help is appreciated.

What about a cone?
You can also try a flea collar.
The skin may be dry and itchy. Coconut oil may help.

Have you asked your vet for guidance? Unhealed sores (even if caused by scratching) can cause serious issues so the vet should take a look see and perhaps he/she can give you something to get it to heal (even if it needs a stitch or two--the internal kind to prevent it being scratched open again).

Acupuncture is good for pain, but I have never heard of it for wound healing. If your vet does that service, like ours does, he/she can tell you if that would help promote healing. Our Clarence had positive results with it when he had his disc issue in his neck.

I would think there would be other things that would better promote healing.

Post back with what the vet says!

I think you need to see your Vet. Could be the wound is infected possibly a yeast infection or something that makes him feel the need to keep scratching it.

Why did you stop using the Elizabethan collar (E-collar/cone)?
This may be necessary until his cheek heals.
I'm assuming the vet gave you medications for the wounds but you might want to make a call just to be sure you do not need to take him back to the vet.

Some wounds take longer to heal than others and most likely this cheek wound is itching and may be driving the kiddie wild. Ask the vet about something to stop the itching. They may suggest "relaxer" that is used to calm animals when they have to go to the vet or on a drive or even thunder/lighting.

Here is an example but it can be found at most pet stores.

Here is a link showing how to make an Elizabethan (cone) collar out of stiff paper that may be more comfortable.
