My Kenmore model 52 sewing machine does not feed forward, only in reverse. The grips below the presser foot move, but don't "rotate" when feeding forward, but do correctly "rotate" when backstitching. It is not the pressure on the presser foot. I have adjusted it, and no change. I looked underneath, and nothing apparent seems to present itself.

This is an engagement problem in the feeder of the machine. The machine seems to be stuck in reverse and will no longer go forward. There could be an issue with your belt or a blockage in the area that will not allow the foot to engage correctly.

Use a flashlight and a tweezer. Ill bet you will pull out whatever is causing this problem.
I would suggest you contact the closes Sears Service Center (Google with your zip code) as they will be the one that services these machines.
If your machine has not been serviced in some time it may be worth the extra to have a complete service as this will correct all problems and should give you a year or two of smooth service.
One item someone suggested was to be sure your buttonhole knob was not set to reverse.
There are other service shops but since Sears is who sells this machine, they may be your best bet for quick service. Of course, your machine is just 'renamed' or 'badged' as Kenmore and is really another brand name so since you know the model number (year will also help) you may be able to find the brand name and seek a shop that services those machines.
You can also search through your manual to see if it has any troubleshooting ideas for this problem.
