I would go with white curtains. You can get teal colored accessories if you want some color in the room.
I would do stripes with both expresso and gray in them.
How about sunny (pale?) yellow? Or maybe a Salmon or even red? Such neutral colors mean you could go with almost any of your favorites especially if you do not have to consider 'matching' any other adjoining room.
I agree that in this context some nice yellow or red of an appropriate hue would be great! It would bring life and light and interest to the kitchen area, and since the background is so neutral, it would not be 'too much'.
Aqua teal would be a nice color for the kitchen and ties in well with light expresso and white gray.
Bright sunny yellow curtains would be pretty.
