I have lighter, but not light, blue-grey kitchen ceramic floor tiles. They are reasonably attractive, but difficult to match a wall colour to without changing the newish medium warm wood stain on the cupboards. My house is 110 years old, with 9.5 foot ceilings and wainscoting in that kitchen. Any suggestions?

Take a picture of your floor and then when you have the picture developed you can go to paint store and select chips that are close in color.
Carol's idea is good about taking pictures, as long as the colors come out true. But, wouldn't that be a bit shadowy with all that same color? How about a pale peach? That would give the vintage room light without being too much so.
How high is your wainscoting? I would go with a much diluted version of the floor tile color above the wainscoting and find a deeper shade for the wainscoting. Or the diluted color for the wainscoting and find a nice soft/simple patterned wallpaper that incorporates your floor and cabinet color for above the wainscoting, with perhaps a white or cream background. There is a great wallpaper ordering site on the internet where you can look for nearly anything you can imagine and at great prices. I have used it several times.
Nothing the matter with white. Goes with everything.
