Kitten Has Watery Crusty Eyes?

I have a 12 week old kitten. She is Siamese and we have only had her for 3 days, but when we got her she had watery eyes and its was crusty just below the eyes. She sneezes every now and again, but idk if I should be concerned or not. I haven't tried wiping her eyes with warm water yet.

She probably has a cold if she is sneezing. You can try the warm compressed. If I were you, I would consult a vet, considering how young she is and the fact that if it is an eye infection, she could go blind if not treated.

This would be the perfect time to get the sweet girley into the vet and have her established, get all of her shots and check out her eyes. Hopefully it is just an allergy, but safety first!!!

Post back what the vet says!

PS, my friend had a Siamese for year and she was the sneeziest cat I have ever seen. It was cute, but I always felt bad for the kitty!!

She needs to see a vet immediately. Do you know if she has had any vaccinations? If you have any other pets, keep her isolated from them until she sees the vet. Hope this helps

You need to get her to the Vet right away. Viral eye infections can result in damage to the cornea. And that can be permanent. If neglected it can cause blindness or require removal in the worst cases.

It does need to be seen and treated. It is time for shots and planning for a spay anyway.

I agree with everyone that you should make an appointment with a vet as soon as possible.

  • That said; no one knows your present financial situation and a first visit to the vet will be costly so be sure you find out about the "approximate" cost for the visit before you make the appointment.
  • It seems that if you purchased her, the former owner should maybe help with the cost of treatment. Anyway, just a thought.
  • If you need help with this cost you might check with your local animal shelter/humane society as many have on site doctors that charge a much smaller fee for their services.

  • It is Christmas time and if you need help with her treatment here are some sites you can check out.

  • You will need to get her started on her first year shots/vaccinations so be sure you find a vet (very important!).
  • You might try to find a vet that will take payments; does not hurt to ask.
  • You can wipe her eyes with warm water (very gently) using a cotton ball (change fresh balls with every wipe).
  • Be sure to test the water but this can be done several times while you are waiting on your vet appointment.
