Someone I know, that's a single mom, has her kids color coordinated. Each kid has picked their favorite color and they have their own bath towels and wash cloths, clothes baskets and their own clothing hangers.
This page contains the following solutions.
The best plan is to always write kids names on the inside of their belongings. Displaying the name on the outside could be an invitation for trouble, should your child assume an unfamiliar person knows him/her just because this person calls him/her by name.
When marking childrens clothing for family use, (Will not work for trips, like for camp). Use 1 mark for largest child, 2 marks for next size and etc.
Use a white-out pen to write on dark things that need a name, or number written on them.

Use permanent marker on things you can. Try having labels made that you can sew inside of their things. You can also make your own labels.
